About Yvonne Zissiadis

Yvonne is Vice-President (& Past President) of the Australasian Society for Breast Disease and the Oceania Representative of the Senologic International Society. She is conjoint lecturer at Edith Cowan University Western Australia and The University of Western Australia and Chair of the Australian GenesisCare Breast Tumour Reference Group. She also maintains activity with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. Yvonne has a strong interest in clinical research and is an advocate for cancer patients. She has been involved in or written over ten published articles, predominantly on pancreatic or breast cancer. When not caring for patients, Yvonne spends time with her husband and two children. She loves to travel and spend time on the beach with her family. She also has a passion for cooking. She’s well known amongst her family and friends for her desserts and takes frequent requests for chocolate brownies.

“I’m a big believer that prevention is the best type of cure. So, for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), also known as stage zero breast cancer, we have a window of opportunity to be proactive before it becomes an invasive cancer. My philosophy is to personalize the treatment so that we are treating the right women and not treating the right women. I don’t want to subject someone to radiotherapy treatment if there’s no benefit for their particular tumor.”
